Oregon Scientific THGR268 Remote Temperature Sensor
Oregon Scientific; | Weber 10020 Smokey Joe Silver Charcoal Grill, Black
Weber; |
Oregon Scientific THGR268 Remote Temperature SensorPerfect for a garden, greenhouse, wine cellar, or baby's room, this remote, wireless sensor--designed as an add-on for use with any Oregon Scientific cable-free thermo-hygrometer monitor--displays the indoor or outdoor temperature and humidity where it's located and also radios the data to the monitor, which is not included. The sensor can be placed up to 90 feet away from the monitor, and the channel it uses can be selected from among three options, permitting this sensor to be used with two others by the same monitor. It displays temperature in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, with a range of minus-4 to 140 degrees F. It operates on two AA batteries (which are not included), has a low-battery indicator, measures 4-1/8 by 2-3/4 inches, and can be set on a flat surface with a stand or mounted on a wall (stand and wall mount are included). --Fred Brack

Customer Review:Oregon Scientific Remote Temp. SensorI use two remote units in addition to the master station in the kitchen. One of the remote units monitors humidity in my basement so that I can take action to keep humidity low. I am very happy with the performance of the system. works well, but could be a bit more accurateI ordered 3 of these, and when laying all 3 of them next to each other, they differed in temp by up to 1.1 degrees and in humidity by up to 3%. not exactly as accurate as I'd like (not sure if there is a way to calibrate them) but accurate enough to be very useful. Good gadgetThis thermometer is a wireless device with fairly accurate temperature readings, so long as you keep it in the shade and out of the rain. It features the ability to change between degrees C and degrees F, independent of the base unit.
I have 3 of these, one outside and two inside. My only complaint is that humidity sensor on the outside device has failed. I think this is because it has been in the rain too much. Now this device is merely a thermometer with inaccurate humidity, so I must buy a new one. Another factor, true of any battery powered outdoor device, is that the alkaline batteries freeze about 0 degrees F, making the device inoperable. The solution to this problem is easy: insert AA LITHIUM batteries. They will be good to about -30F. Keywords: Weather; Outlet; Outdoor Décor; Weather Monitors;

Customer Review:Excellent & Fast Way to Grill FoodThis is my second Smokey Joe: The first one (about 11 years old) really only needed the charcoal grate so I figured I'd get a new grate and pass that one on to one of my children and have a new one for me. Although it's relatively small in size, I've done 7 BIG burgers or 5-6 chicken breast-quarters with smoked sausage at one time. And it doesn't require a big amount of charcoal to do the job. After cleaning the cooking grate and the housing it now looks almost new. Would I recommend it - You bet! Not clear installation instructionsUnfortunately installation instructions are not very clear for this item, which results in complete harm into the grill. Be carefull Good for small patios, but not so good for travelling.I've had one of these little Smokey Joes for probably 15 years now. It definitely has some strong points, but also a few drawbacks.
Pros:
1. Durable. Mine's been outdoors in the weather for 15 years now. When I give it a good cleaning, it looks almost new.
2. Cooks well. I've grilled steaks, burgers, dogs, etc. It does a nice job on them all. And it doesn't use a whole lot of coal to do it. I've got a 22 1/2 weber too, but sometimes when cooking for only 2 of us, I use the smokey joe to save on coals.
3. It's small and does a nice job in a small space like apartment porch or patio.
Cons:
1. It's inconvenient as a Portable grill when traveling. It's got no carry handle or way to seal it up. Also, once you've grilled and need to go, there's nothing to do with the hot coals. You've got to seal all the vents and wait for them to be extinguished. Even then I'd be nervous about dumping them out or putting the grill in my trunk.
2. The legs get bent out of shape easily. I never abused mine, yet somehow they always are bent out of shape. Sure you can bend them back again, but later on its the same story.
If I were buying a small portable grill today, I would go with a rectangular grill like the Weber Go Anywhere grill. The legs fold up and snap over the cover. Then you just pick it up like a tool box by the top handle and go. If you choose a propane version you avoid the problem of dealing with the hot coals afterward. Toro 51598 Ultra Blower

Toro 51598 Ultra BlowerWith 225 mph of maximum force, the Toro Ultra Blower is a three-in-one machine--blower, vacuum, and leaf shredder--that's ready to rip through leaf-covered lawns with the power of a small hurricane. Better yet, you'll likely find it to be not only one of the most powerful lawn tools in your garage, but one of the most versatile as well. To facilitate the different uses, the blower comes with a quick-release latch for easy conversion as well as infinitely variable air control. In addition, the metal impeller mulches leaves with fearsome efficiency, reducing 16 bags of leaves down to a single bag. For those looking for a blower that'll make quick work of acres of matted-down leaves, Toro's Ultra Blower is up to the task. --Rivers Janssen

Customer Review:Toro leaf vacuumGenerally good. Does a nice job of vacuuming the garden (haven't done the leaf blower thing yet). Bit plasticy tho' so lengevity may be an issue if abused.
4/5 Why did I wait so long?I have a 10-year old Toro electric blower, and it still works, but it never had the power I wanted. This new blower is lighter, more powerful, and I think it cost less than the one I bought a decade ago. It was definitely time to upgrade! Does well for meLiving in Southern California I have trees that drop leaves year round and I like to vacuum them up. While my lot isn't as big as what you find in the midwest the 51598 works perfectly for me. The only problem I have is the same as many other people, it does pick up everything if you get close to the garden, mulch and loose dirt are gone into the bag. Of course it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that is going to happen.
My only recomendation would be to look in your local Lowes or Home Depot for it before ordering online. While listed as "in stock" I waited almost four weeks for it to arrive due to "back-ordering". Purchased from Lowes it would have cost me maybe $2.50 more, but then I would have been using the vacuum instead of a rake! Keywords: Landscaping Tools; Blowers & Vacs; Electric; Home; Tools;
